About the Center for Global Integrity

The Center for Global Integrity (CGI) is an independent nonprofit journalism organization registered in Maryland, United States, with a pan-African mission to strengthen access to credible information, advance investigative journalism, and promote transparency and public accountability.

CGI brings together experienced journalists, editors, broadcasters, and media professionals committed to delivering independent, fact-based journalism across Africa and to African diaspora communities worldwide.

Our Story

CGI was established in response to the growing need for independent and trustworthy journalism across Africa, particularly following the suspension of Voice of America's African broadcasting services in March 2025.

Founded by experienced media professionals, CGI builds on decades of expertise in investigative reporting, multilingual broadcasting, editorial leadership, and public-interest journalism.

Our organization seeks to help address gaps in credible news coverage, counter disinformation, and strengthen the public's access to reliable information.

Our Pan-African Commitment

CGI's mission extends across North, West, Central, East, and Southern Africa, reaching communities through major African and international languages spoken across the continent.

We are developing a multilingual journalism network designed to serve diverse audiences, including rural communities, young people, women, and populations often underserved by mainstream news organizations.

Our approach combines locally informed reporting, cross-border investigations, multimedia storytelling, and direct community engagement.

AI Accountability & Investigative Journalism

Artificial intelligence is transforming governance, business, employment, communication, and public life. CGI recognizes the importance of independent journalism in examining how these technologies are developed, deployed, and regulated across Africa.

Through its AfroTruth AI Accountability & Investigative Journalism Initiative and broader reporting programs, CGI aims to investigate the impact of artificial intelligence on workers, communities, public institutions, and democratic accountability.

Our journalism will examine algorithmic bias, digital rights, data protection, corporate responsibility, government use of AI, and the social and economic consequences of emerging technologies.

CGI combines the expertise of experienced investigative journalists with responsible, human-supervised use of technology to produce rigorous investigations, accessible explanatory reporting, and informed public discussions.

Editorial Independence

CGI is committed to accuracy, fairness, verification, transparency, and the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

Our editorial decisions are guided by the public interest and remain independent of political, commercial, governmental, and other external influences.

We believe that independent journalism must question authority, investigate wrongdoing, and provide audiences with credible information that enables informed participation in public life.

Our Vision

To build a trusted, multilingual pan-African journalism institution that connects communities through credible information, strengthens public accountability, advances responsible technological development, and supports informed civic participation across Africa and its diaspora.
